The Yelm Community Schools Board of Directors will have a new look in 2024. Casey Shaw, District No. 2, was sworn in as the board’s newest director during the Dec. 15 meeting and took his seat at the desk.

Denise Hendrickson and Bill Hauss, who were both re-elected this fall, were also sworn in. Debbie Edwards was unanimously voted board president for 2024 by the directors, while Hendrickson was unanimously voted vice president.

“I’ve been a product of the district my whole life,” Shaw told the board during the meeting. “I’m excited to meet you all and work with your kids.”

Shaw defeated Eric Heid in the District No. 2 race, while Hendrickson bested Allyn Verbal, and Hauss topped Karen (Kay) Anderson to maintain their spots on the board.

“I’m most excited about having the ability to give back to the community and to the kids,” Shaw said after the meeting. “This community has been great to me. It’s all I’ve ever known. I went to Southworth, Mill Pond, Yelm Middle High and then the high school. This district helped create who I am today, and I’m excited to give back.”
