Rayanna Mustoe buried not one, not two, but all three goals for the Beavers en route to them defeating arch rival Rochester 3-0 on Thursday night at home to begin 1A Evergreen League play.
In her first year playing competitive soccer as a prep, Mustoe scored in the 21st, 38th and 51st minutes. Kyla Watson dished out an assist on the second goal of the evening.
“This just happened to be a game where Ray got into dangerous positions,” Beavers head coach Trevor Fetbrandt said. “We knew the areas of the field we could exploit and our wings were going to be crucial.”
Tenino (7-1-1, 1-0 Evergreen) outshot its Scatter Creek rivals 18-4 and the lone threatening chance by the Warriors was a 35-yard shot off the foot of Lizzie Hoover that was saved to keep the shutout intact.
Still, Fetbrandt was left quite impressed with the opposition.
“Kudos to Rochester. It was pouring rain and they came to play,” he said. “I was really impressed with their squad tonight. They battled for all 80 minutes.”
Sophie Espino was “stellar” in Fetbrandt’s words to play several different positions and had six clean challenges. Tenino will hit the road for the first time in league play on Tuesday to battle Hoquiam at Olympic Stadium.
Meanwhile Rochester (4-3-1, 1-1) saw its four-match winning streak snapped, but will attempt to start a new one on Tuesday at home versus Montesano.
