One of the most requested commodities in Yelm will soon become reality as MultiCare Indigo Urgent Care is expected to open a clinic in early 2025.

Yelm Mayor Joe DePinto announced on Thursday, June 13, on Facebook that the urgent care facility would open in a new building near OlyFed in the Yelm Medical Plaza, near Yelm Family Medicine. He said that MultiCare Indigo’s new urgent care facility in Yelm should open for new patients in about seven months.

“I’m really thrilled that Yelm is going to get more health care options, and I will continue to encourage Multicare and other health care providers to offer more services here in Yelm,” DePinto wrote on Facebook on June 13.

In an interview on Thursday, June 14, DePinto said, in addition to the MultiCare Indigo Urgent Care facility, a new Starbucks and a third business, yet to be announced, will also open in the plaza.

“(MultiCare is) hoping to be finished by the end of the year with the construction of the building, and then they’re going to take a couple months to get their stuff in there. They said that January is when they should be taking possession of the building, and they should open up shortly after that. I’d say early 2025,” DePinto said. “There should be more medical facilities in the future and other health care options coming in the next couple of years.”

DePinto serves on the Thurston County Economic Development Council (EDC) along with Cecilia Loveless, a MultiCare representative for the EDC. The mayor said he asked Loveless to connect with MultiCare representatives “in the know,” and he ultimately met with representatives in 2023 to discuss the possibility of bringing an urgent care facility to Yelm.

“They shared the plans that Yelm was one of their targets. They asked me questions about future growth, some of the development that’s happening in Yelm, and I talked about the 640 acres. I talked about the medical plaza that’s there now,” DePinto said. “Since then, I’ve been chatting with Cecilia a little bit, just trying to hear about what’s going on. She finally said that MultiCare is ready to put in an urgent care center.”

DePinto also requested a meeting with William Callicoat, president of Capital Medical Center, to learn more about the process of opening a MultiCare facility.

“He knows all the ins and outs, and after chatting with him last year, he told me what the plans are, and that Yelm is on the radar,” DePinto said. “At the last meeting there on Wednesday, June 12, he and another gentleman from MultiCare gave me some wonderful news that they’re planning to build in Yelm.”

DePinto said he’s excited about an urgent care clinic coming to Yelm, adding that he tries to do things for the City that people “really want.”

“There’s transportation, obviously people are concerned by that. I’m concerned about that. I want to reduce traffic in Yelm, and we’re working on projects to do that,” DePinto said. “Public safety is another one. We increased the amount of officers, lowered response time, and we’re probably going to be increasing officers next year in our next budget.”
