The Rainier softball team earned itself a big win in terms of Central 2B League standings Monday, taking down Toledo 14-4 in six innings at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey, before coming back to win the non-league sequel in the doubleheader 14-12.

Brooklynn Swenson finished a triple shy of a cycle in the league matchup, going 4 for 4 with a homer, a double, four RBIs, and three runs scored. Her bomb was a three-run shot in the bottom of the sixth, giving Rainier a 10-run lead and ending the game then and there.

Olivia Earsley went 2 for 3 and scored three runs, and Ryleigh Cruse had a double and drove three runs in.

Cruse also took care of things in the circle for the Mountaineers, giving up one run in the first inning but then putting up four straight zeroes. She finished with four runs allowed, though just one was earned, giving up seven hits and three walks.

The Mountaineers scored in each of the first three innings off of Toledo’s Bethany Bowen to lead 4-1, then dropped back-to-back five-spots in the fifth and sixth innings to shorten the game.

Abbie Marcil went 2 for 3 with a double, a run scored, and another driven in for the Riverhawks. Bowen struck out six in five innings, but allowed 13 hits.

Toledo jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the top of the first inning of the second game, but Rainier got to work coming back with crooked numbers, scoring three in the first, two in the third, four in the fourth, and five in the fifth.

Swenson tabbed herself another homer in Game 2, finishing the day 7 for 8 at the plate with the two bombs and nine RBIs. Madison Mounts came a single shy of a cycle of her own in the second game with a double, a triple, and a home run, and Keira Anderson also went yard.

Quyn Norberg and Rahkelle Miller both logged two doubles for the Riverhawks, while Marcil went 3 for 4.

Toledo is set to head to Adna on Wednesday, and after that, the Mountaineers will put their undefeated record on the line against the Pirates.
