Mountaineers Pick Up Two State Champion Wins in Yakima

The Rainier track team sent athletes to the 1A/2B/1B state track and field meet in Yakima over the weekend as two Mountaineers were crowned champions.

The team picked up a state championship on Friday and Saturday with Ella Marvin earning gold in the 2B girls pole vault, clearing 9 feet, 9 inches and Acacia Murphy in the high jump with a 5 foot, 2 inch clearance, and then finishing sixth in the 100-meter dash in 13.27.

The height is an improvement of over 2 feet from last year for Marvin, who finished 10th at the 2022 championships with a height of 7 feet, 6 inches.



Matthew Kenney also got to the podium, taking seventh in the 2B boys shot put (44 feet, 0.5 inches). Chase MacFarland secured sixth place in the triple jump with 41 feet and 0.5 inches, while Josh Meldrum placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time  of 11.35 seconds. 

Also on the field, James Meldrum competed in the pole vault finals.
