The Rainier High School volleyball team jumped into third place in the Central 2B League with a sweep of Mossyrock in Rainier Thursday night 25-11, 25-23, 25-17.

Rainier has won three straight games, all via sweep, while Mossyrock has lost two straight after starting 4-0 in C2BL play.

“The team played great. They are better with their movement and continue to improve with each game and practice,” Rainier head coach Carrie Ooms said.

Allyson Ooms stuffed the stat sheet with 15 kills, 22 digs, three aces and no service errors. Liberty Adair recorded 21 digs and was also perfect from the service line.

The height of Rainier’s front line was too much for the Vikings to handle, as Anika Plowman, Lexi Beckman and Courtney Eckroth combined for 17 blocks. Plowman added nine kills and no service errors, and Beckman tallied seven kills.

Setter Katelyn Eckroth dished out 18 assists and two aces, while Courtney Eckroth handed out 11 assists and three kills.

Rainier (11-4, 4-2 C2BL) will visit Morton-White Pass (9-6, 2-4 C2BL) on Monday, Oct. 27 before its final regular season match at home against Napavine (3-11, 2-4 C2BL) on Wednesday, Oct. 29. If the Mountaineers clinch a top-three spot in the C2BL, they would head straight to the District 4 2B quarterfinals.

Mossyrock (8-6, 4-2 C2BL) hosts Toledo (12-3, 3-3 C2BL) on Monday, Oct. 27 in its final home regular season match, and the Vikings will get a chance to knock one of the C2BL powers down the standings as they travel to Toutle Lake (13-2, 6-1 C2BL) on Wednesday, Oct. 29. A fourth seed in the district tournament would land Mossyrock in a loser-out first round.
