For the second straight week, the Onalaska football team got off to a hot start, and this time the Loggers just kept rolling, throwing 50 points on the scoreboard before halftime in a 50-6 win over Rainier on Friday, Sept. 15.

Rodrigo Rodriguez took the second play from scrimmage 75 yards to the house, and things only got faster from there.

“It was good to see them do that,” Onalaska coach Mazen Saade said. “Man, Rodrigo ran fast. He really did. And our offensive line improved as well from the week before.”

Rodriguez finished with 212 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries, averaging over 16 yards per run.

Beside him in the backfield, quarterback Kayden Mozingo had an even better average, taking 10 rushes for 174 yards and scoring four touchdowns, including a 69-yard pop in a 30-point second quarter.

“Kayden did a good job of running our offense and running the ball tonight,” Saade said.

Nick Rushton scored the other touchdown of the evening for the Loggers (2-1), who also scored a safety on a bad snap that rolled through the end zone.

Jake Meldrum was 9 for 17 for 56 yards for the Mountaineers (1-2); six of those completions went to Hunter Howell.

Jayden Alegarbes scored Rainier’s only touchdown in the second quarter, taking a kickoff all the way back to cut the Onalaska lead to 26-6.

Rainier will host Morton-White Pass this week, while Onalaska will go north to Tenino for a renewal of their recent rivalry.
