Break out your building blocks on Tuesday, Sept. 24, as local Cub Scout Pack 267 is set to host a free, community-based “Lego Pinewood Derby” event from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Yelm Moose Lodge, 1117 W. Yelm Ave.
The event welcomes community members to participate in the “unique twist” on the Cub Scouts’ Pinewood Derby tradition, according to a release. Participants are invited to create, build and race their hand-built Lego Pinewood Derby cars during the event.
Organizers with the Cub Scout troop said the event isn’t just about racing. It is also an opportunity to learn problem solving, design and basic STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills while “having a blast” with other community members in attendance.
Cub Scout Troop 267 stated families from throughout the Nisqually Valley region are welcome to attend the event and cheer the kids on.
“The Pinewood Derby has been a long-standing Cub Scout tradition, but we’re giving it a whole new level of imagination with Lego cars,” a Cub Scout Troop 267 representative wrote in an email. “It’s a mix of timeless tradition and modern creativity.”
