People who have not yet registered to vote in the primary election have until 8 p.m. on Aug. 2 to register or update their information in-person at several locations in Thurston County.

The services are available at the Thurston County Drive-Thru Voter Services or Walk-In Voting Center in the elections office, located at 2400 Evergreen Park Drive SW in Olympia. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on election day.

The Lacey Timberland Library will also offer last minute voter registration and updates. The library is located at 500 College St. SE in Lacey. They are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on election day.

The same services will also be provided at “any other auditor’s office or voting center in the state,” according to the news release.

Ballot drop boxes in Yelm and the surrounding areas include Lackamas Elementary School at 16240 Bald Hills Road SE in Yelm, the Yelm Schools Administration building at 110 First St. NE, the Nisqually Tribal Administration building at 4820 She Nah Num Drive SE and Rainier City Hall at 102 Rochester St. W.

Other locations include the Tenino School Administration building at 301 Old Highway 99 SE and in Bucoda at 103 S. Main St.

Along with countywide, congressional and legislative races, the Aug. 2 ballot includes a levy for South Pierce Fire and Rescue.

The six-year levy is estimated to cost 50 cents or less per $1,000 of assessed value. It’s a replacement of the district’s emergency medical services levy.

The last day for remote registrations and updates to existing registrations online, by mail or at voter registration drives was Monday, July 25.

The United States Postal Service advises voters to mail ballots at least seven days prior to the election to account for any unforeseen events or weather issues so the envelope will be postmarked in time. The sooner ballots are turned in, the more likely they are to count.

If the ballot is not mailed until election day, the voter should take the ballot packet to a postal clerk inside the post office and have the clerk stamp the envelope with a circular post office cancellation stamp.

Voters are encouraged to use ballot drop boxes located within the communities participating in the election. Ballots must be dropped off by 8 p.m. on election day.
