In Loving Memory of Jason Turner: 1975-2021

Jason Jeffrey Turner passed away on Sept. 10, 2021 at 12:20 a.m. after a 37 day battle with COVID-19.

Jason was born on Jan. 17, 1975 to Bill and Gloria Turner in Olympia, Washington. He resided in Rainier, Washington for most of his childhood on his family farm. Jason graduated from Rainier High School in 1993. He served in the United States Coast Guard from 1995 to 2000 as a Gunner’s Mate. His training in the USCG turned into a passion for target practice. He loved teaching friends best practices for shooting, gun safety and cleaning of weapons.

He met his wife Megan in 1997. They were engaged in August 1998 and married on March 27, 1999. Jason and Megan were partners in life for 24 years at the time of his death. They had many dogs and loved them like family. In 2010, Jason’s mini me and favorite hunting partner Jeffrey was born. They loved to travel to Disney World as a family.

Jason worked in armed security after leaving the Coast Guard. He had planned to go into law enforcement then shifted to studying civil engineering like his dad. He attended Green River Community College then St. Martin’s University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 2007.

Jason worked for 10 years at the City of Tacoma. He recently accepted a project manager position in Hillsborough County, Florida. He was so excited to start a new life in the sun and loved his new job.

Jason was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. If it wasn’t hunting season, he was working on his duck blind prepping for hunting season. He was always searching for ducks in the sky and deer in the woods. Fortunately, Jason was here to see Jeff get his first deer and turkey last fall. His hunting dog Buddy is lost and devastated without him.

Jason loved checking out breweries every place he traveled. He traveled to Munich in 2005 and visiting the Hofbrauhaus was one of his favorite stories to tell. He loved to barbecue and his ribs he made for big holidays were legendary.

He had many friends. He was an amazing father and husband. He welcomed everyone into his home like family and was greatly loved. He loved to introduce friends to his favorite beer combo of half Mac and Jacks and half Irish Death.

Jason is survived by his wife Megan; his 11-year-old son Jeffrey; parents Bill and Gloria Turner; brother Jeremy and sister Carrie and their spouses; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is planned on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021 at noon at the Rainier Sportsman’s Club. It will be live streamed for those out of the area. If you would like to contribute to programs in Jason’s name he supported Ducks Unlimited and hunting and safety courses for kids. Donations can be made through any hunting licensing agent for youth hunting programs.
