Cecelia Mae Jenkins, 72, of Rainier, Washington passed away Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021. She was born Dec. 2, 1948 in Olympia. Cecelia graduated from Yelm High School with the class of 1967. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Jerrold.
She worked as an administrative assistant in the district office of Yelm Community Schools for more than 45 years. While working for Yelm, she was honored with the School Bell award, served as president of the Washington Association of Educational Office Personnel, and was nominated for the 41st Annual Citizen of the Year award organized by the Kiwanis. Cecelia loved the children and families of Yelm and worked tirelessly creating and organizing programs to benefit the community. Project Community Santa, Clothing Connection, School Kits for Kids, Yelm Community Education Council, and Christmas In the Park are some of her most impactful accomplishments. After retiring from Yelm Community Schools, Cecelia continued to serve the Yelm community as the executive director of the Yelm Chamber of Commerce. As a volunteer extraordinaire working for the chamber, it allowed her to link community groups and businesses with the schools to improve the opportunities for Yelm students.
Cecelia is survived by daughter Tammy Jenkins- Jelovich (Toni); son Jerrold Jenkins Jr. (Jessica); two grandchildren Rebecca Cook and John Cook III (Carene); great-grandchildren Lilly, Ryleigh, Jaxson, and Xoi; brother Richard Games; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The graveside service will be held on October 23, 2021 at 12 p.m. at the Yelm Cemetery.
