On Thursday, Jan. 12, members of the Washington state House of Representative unanimously passed a resolution honoring Jamie Walsh, the recently deceased wife of state Rep. Jim Walsh, R-Aberdeen.

Jamie Walsh died in a car accident on Monday, Oct. 24, 2022.

The resolution, HR 4602, was sponsored by Speaker Laurie Jinkins, D-Tacoma, and was co-sponsored by all 97 other members of the state House.

Walsh’s seatmate in the 19th Legislative District, state Rep. Joel McEntire, R-Cathlamet, moved to pass the resolution and spoke in its favor on the House floor.

“Washington state is filled with amazing people, one of these amazing people was Jamie Walsh,” McEntire said.

Other members of the chamber also spoke in favor of the resolution, which included state Reps. Drew Hansen, D-Bainbridge Island; Chris Corry, R-Yakima; Monica Stonier, D-Vancouver; and Jinkins.

“Jim, I remember very well visiting your home and talking to you and Jamie a couple of years ago. … She immediately invited me in to sit down. A cup of tea was immediately offered and taken and then we then all three sat around the table talking about issues together and she was just as engaged as you and I were. And I was really happy to hear her disagree with you a couple times,” Jinkins said to laughter. “It doesn’t mean she agreed with me but it showed the incredibly robust partnership that you had and I want to thank you for letting me see that and be a part of it, and (I) extend my deep condolences to you and your family.”

After the resolution was unanimously approved by a voice vote, Jinkins recognized two of Walsh’s children who were in the House gallery and presented a copy of the resolution to Rep. Walsh as the chamber applauded.
