Last week, U.S. Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Skamania, announced her subcommittee assignments for the House Committee on Appropriations.

In the 119th Congress, Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez will serve on the Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government as well as the Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies, according to a news release from her office.

“Living in rural Southwest Washington, I know we have a clear idea of what is worth having in life: durable infrastructure, a relationship with our woods and a level playing field for small businesses, farmers and child care providers,” Gluesenkamp Perez stated in the release. “On my House Appropriations Subcommittees, I’m excited to orient federal priorities to be more in line with Southwest Washington values, fight for the nuts and bolts of good governance and work toward an economy where one job can support a family. I operated an auto repair and machine shop before coming to Congress, and we bought our building with the help of an SBA loan, but it wasn’t easy. I look forward to cutting burdensome red tape and fighting to make it easier for small business owners to access these critical resources. I’ll also continue working to protect our right to repair our own stuff where, when, and how we’d like — from vehicles to ag equipment to electronics. It’ll bring costs down and protect our American ethos that we can be skilled stewards of our belongings.”

The House Committee on Appropriations oversees discretionary spending and is responsible for funding the federal government’s activities and investments to grow the economy, keep the country secure and build for the future.

In her first term, Gluesenkamp Perez got over $2.4 billion of federal funding for community investments in every county across Southwest Washington.

Of that, she secured $21.4 million in community project funding.
