For the third time in school history, the Fort Stevens Elementary choir will head to King County and into the Emerald City to perform The Star-Spangled Banner, the national anthem of the United States of America, prior to a Seattle Mariners game.
Specifically, members of the Fort Stevens Eagles choir will take to the field prior to the 1:10 p.m. matchup between the Seattle Mariners and the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, June 18, inside of T-Mobile Park.
This iteration marks the third time in school history that Fort Stevens students have stood on the sod of T-Mobile Park to ceremoniously sing The Star-Spangled Banner prior to the Seattle Mariners taking the field.
This year, approximately 50 students will participate in the field trip to T-Mobile Park to sing the national anthem.
“Teaching at Fort Stevens Elementary is a true gift,” said Chantal Hollatschek, a music educator at the Yelm-based elementary school. “I am thankful to our students and families for their willingness to do hard things. Please come hear us at T-Mobile (Park) on (Thursday), June 18.”
The Fort Stevens Elementary choir performed for the first time at T-Mobile Park on June 4, 2015 — when the stadium was still known as Safeco Field. Following the Eagles’ first performance at the ballpark, the Mariners went on to defeat the Atlanta Braves, 2-0, behind the bats of third baseman Kyle Seager and left fielder Cole Gillespie, who each notched an RBI in the contest.
