Sixteen brave cowboys competed in this weekend’s bull riding event at the Roy Pioneer Rodeo on Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1. But only one qualified with a winning score.
That honor went to Shane Scott of Molalla, Oregon, whose score of 88 earned him $3,201.
Local riders included Auto O’Neal and Walter Auckent of Yelm, Salvador Garcia of Olympia, and Immanuel Wallace of Roy.
Roy Rodeo results and highlights
Thousands of rodeo fans, and an abundance of cowboys and cowgirls, made their way to the Nisqually Valley for the annual Roy Rodeo competition.
The two-day event occurred on Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1.
BAREBACK
Jenner Cole was the top earner in the bareback competition with a score of 79 to earn $752.48.
He was followed by Dylan Hart, who scored a 77 to finish in second place and earn $622.74.
Tyrel Holmes and Sean Mahoney tied for third place in the event — each scoring 76 to earn $428.13.
SADDLE BRONC
BULL RIDING
Contestant Shane Scott was the top earner in the bull-riding competition after earning a score of 88 to take home $3,201.
TIE DOWN ROPING
Blake Sofich was the top earner in the tie down roping competition after finishing with a time of 8.6 seconds to earn $1,209.59. He was followed by Hayzen Hoffman, who finished the competition in 9.4 seconds to earn $1,001.04. Russell Cardoza finished in third place with a time of 9.5 seconds to earn $792.49.
STEER WRESTLING
Cardoza also competed in the steer wrestling event and was the top earner after finishing with a time of 5.5 seconds to earn $814.80. He was followed by Wiley Jack Caras in second place after he finished in 15.7 seconds to earn $679. Samuel Mundell finished in third place with a time of 21.2 seconds to earn $543.20.
TEAM ROPING
Casey Hale and Trevor Williams were the top earners in the team roping competition with a time of 5.3 seconds to earn $1,160.10 each. Houston Hull and Phoenix Evereno finished in second place with a time of 5.8 seconds to earn $1,008.80 each. Dale Benevides and Shane Crossley finished in third place with a time of 6.3 seconds to each collect $857.48.
COW MILKING
Jason Minor was the top earner in the cow milking competition after finishing with a time of 17.5 seconds to earn $928.29. He was followed by Casey Hale in second place, who completed the event in 23.4 seconds to collect $768.24. Jesse Sleeman finished in third place with a time of 24.9 seconds to earn $608.19.
BREAKAWAY
Josie Reno was the top earner in the breakaway roping competition after recording a time of 2.6 seconds to earn $1,650.94. She was followed by Courtney Wolff in second place after she finished the event in 2.8 seconds to earn $1,435.60. Megan Thompson recorded a time of 2.9 seconds to earn a third place finish and collect $1,220.26.
BARREL RACING
Peyton Sanchey was the top competitor in the barrel racing competition after recording a time of 18.10 seconds to earn $1,517.08. She was followed by Summer Huston in second place, after she recorded a time of 18.21 seconds to bring home $1,319.20. Michaun Howe finished in third place with a time of 18.24 seconds to bring home $1,121.32.
