The Rainier Senior Center is hosting a senior driving class for residents 55 and older on Wednesday, March 26. The class will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and costs $15 to attend. Lunch will be provided for a minimal fee.
Gerald Apple, a national award-winning instructor with the American Traffic Safety Education Association (ADTSEA), is leading the class. Apple has taught traffic safety for 55 years.
According to Apple, the “fun and interactive experience” will cover topics like “driving in bad weather, handling emergencies, texting and driving, road rage, roundabouts, reference points, good seeing habits, new traffic laws, prescription drugs, stop positions and pedestrians/bicycles.” There will also be a speaker from the Washington State patrol.
Senior drivers who complete the six-hour class will become eligible for a 5 to 10% reduction on automobile insurance rates for a two-to-three-year period.
The class is sponsored by the American Automobile Association (AAA), Washington Traffic Safety Education Association, Washington Traffic Safety Commission and the Washington Department of Licensing.
