Rainier has a new food option with the opening of DARA Mexican Food, a trailer located at 112 Binghamton St. next to Design N Signs.
Upon opening on Feb. 10, owners Amador Rodriguez and America Arellano were surprised to see the customers come out in droves to try their authentic Mexican food.
“A lot of people came. A lot of people support small businesses because this is a small town. It’s not like Olympia or Lacey with big areas and big neighborhoods,” Rodriguez said.
DARA Mexican Food, which is named for the initials of each of their three kids, serves quesadillas, tamales, tortas, tacos, enchiladas and much more.
Quesabirria and street tacos are the most popular, Arellano said. She worked in a restaurant for years, but the trailer is her first step on her own alongside her family.
“We didn’t really have a lot to begin with, and we didn’t know how big this would scale out to be,” she said. “We underestimated how many people would come here.”
Arellano and Rodriguez get help from their son, Daniel, who said the business has received a warm welcome since its arrival earlier this month. The business took nearly four months to open after Arellano purchased the trailer in November, but the family said it was worth the wait.
“We really haven’t had a single day where we haven’t sold a lot. Normally, it’s busy throughout the day,” Daniel Rodriguez Arellano said. “We’ve got a lot of frequent customers, and they always come back and order the same stuff or try out new stuff.”
Arellano, who is depicted in the business’s logo, said DARA Mexican Food prides itself on serving authentic Mexican food with reasonable prices to provide a sense of welcoming and treating customers like family. The trailer is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, but Arellano hopes to add delivery services eventually.
