Dancing Goats and Singing Chickens farm will host a series of events throughout November with the intention of demonstrating different techniques for apartments, homes and gardens.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, and Sunday, Nov. 17, Dancing Goats and Singing Chickens Farm, and Tom Perkins, a master composter, inventor and educator, will teach participants about vermicomposting through the winter. Those in attendance will need to just bring smiles, a positive attitude, a notebook and rubber boots for the farm tour, according to farmer Muhammad Ayub.

According to Ayub, vermicomposting is a natural process involving worms to break down organic waste into a compost that’s nutrient-rich. The compost can be used as a soil amendment in order to nourish various plants in gardens and landscapes.

Vermicompost, according to Ayub in a release, is the product of earthworm’s digestion and aerobic decomposition using the activities of micro- and macro-organisms at room temperature. Vermicomposting is also known as worm composting, and produces a rich and organic soil that contains diverse nutrients and important microorganisms.

Dancing Goats and Singing Chickens farm participates in circular economy and also practices regenerative agriculture. The farm sits on 12 acres at 14062 Yelm Highway Southeast, near Southworth Elementary. It also holds open houses and educational events with the intention of sharing knowledge with community members. The various workshops at the farm include greenhouse construction, solar panels, wind turbines, composting, hugelkultur and more.
