Prior to her swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 17, Thurston County Commissioner-elect Rachel Dreon announced she had married her partner, Jeff Grant, on Dec. 13. The elected official opted to change her last name and is now known as Rachel Grant.

“Jeff and I are grateful to begin this next chapter together, and I look forward to serving Thurston

County as Rachel Grant,” she said in a press release. “I want to ensure that voters are aware of this name change as I step into office, and I remain fully committed to representing our community with integrity and care.”

Additionally, Grant announced that her 21-year-old son, Cooper, had been diagnosed unexpectedly with B-cell Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL).

“This has been a bittersweet time for our family — celebrating a major milestone while navigating a challenging diagnosis,” Grant said. “We’re facing it all with strength, hope, and the incredible support of those around us.”
