The City of Yelm is finding a way to involve audiences typically excluded from Easter egg hunts with a trifecta of activities this weekend for teenagers, adults and for dogs.

According to Line Roy, City of Yelm Parks and Recreation Coordinator, the first of the three Easter egg hunts to take place will be the teenage activity, known as the “Glow and Go Egg Hunt.” It’s set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 27, at Cochrane Memorial Park — located at 750 Mill Road SE.

The event welcomes area-residents aged 13 to 17.

“The event will cost $20. We’ll have some awesome prizes. Each of the eggs will be stuffed with candy and goodies. We’ll also have some tickets inside of the eggs for some awesome prizes,” Roy said. “We’ve had some awesome donations from local businesses for these prizes at the upcoming egg hunts.”

Roy added that the local businesses donating items include Farrelli’s, Jason’s Greenhouse, Yelm Cinemas, Uptown Lounge, YARD and more. She said local businesses are always extremely generous with donations of prizes or items for local activities.

Then, on Saturday, March 28, the adult Easter egg hunt will take place at Cochrane Memorial Park. Roy noted this hunt will be similar to the teenage egg hunt that occurred on the night before. The adult Easter egg hunt is called “After Dark Eggs-travaganza.”

“It’s the same $20 to participate. The prizes will come from local businesses again,” Roy said. “Bring your own basket. Bring your own flashlights. Get ready for fun.”

Roy noted that the teenage and adult Easter egg hunts differ from your typical childhood activity because it takes place in the dark — requiring some strategy to be used.

“You need to use a flashlight, use your skills and see what you find,” Roy said. “I think the participants really enjoy it too.”

An Easter egg hunt for dogs will take place on Sunday, March 29 at Yelm Dog Park. According to Roy, dogs of all sizes will be able to participate.

“By 9 a.m., the Easter bunny will have dropped off filled eggs in both the small dog park and the large dog park,” she said. “Your furry friends can sniff out their favorite egg and enjoy a treat that’s inside. We just ask that you leave the egg so that we can use it again next year.”

Roy added that the eggs will be out in the open and easily accessible for the dogs to find and handle since they “don’t have thumbs.”
Lastly, the City of Yelm will host a “Jump into Easter” cookie decorating workshop on Wednesday, April 1, at Yelm Community Center.

“It costs $40 per person, and we’ll be making a cute little Easter set,” Roy said.

Additionally, Roy said registration for the teenage and adult Easter egg hunts must be completed by Wednesday, March 25. You can register and purchase your tickets for the Easter egg hunt and for the cookie decoration class online at https://yelm.recdesk.com/Community/Program.
