The City of Yelm, in collaboration with VFW Post 5580 and American Legion Joseph Redberg Hall, will soon honor local heroes who paid the ultimate price while serving for the United States military.
Beginning at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 26, at Yelm City Park, the city and the two local veterans organizations will host a Memorial Day ceremony and a Veterans Memorial rededication activity.
Recently, the city removed memorial bricks from Yelm City Park with the installation of a new “We-Go-Swing,” with the intention of relocating the bricks to the planned Veterans Memorial Park on Mill Road.
According to a news release, Yelm, VFW Post 558 and American Legion Joseph Redberg Hall invited the community to gather in a solemn remembrance throughout the afternoon at the park. The event will be open to the public.
“We are honored to stand alongside our local veterans’ organizations to pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice,” Yelm Mayor Joe DePinto said in a news release. “This rededication represents our continued commitment to remembering and recognizing the brave men and women who have served our nation.”
The event will also include remarks from local veterans and representatives, a ceremonial flag presentation and a moment of silence. The public is encouraged to attend the event to show support for families and loved ones of fallen service members.
