Bucoda Town Council roundup: LeMay to begin trash collection service in May, city staff considering opening OlyFed account

While there wasn’t much on the agenda aside from approval of amending an ordinance to include the full legal name of a fire district, members of the Bucoda Town Council still convened for their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 14.

Councilors also approved the town’s water system 2026 goals at the meeting.

Additionally, city staff proposed opening an account with Olympia Federal Savings, also known as OlyFed, for the city. This will give city staff the option to send electronic invoices for events held in town, including the annual Boo-Coda Spook-Tacular.

The current banking system utilized by Bucoda city staff would require an upgrade to cloud services along with paying for a project manager.

Bucoda Mayor Callie Carpenter stated they had resubmitted a Washington state Department of Commerce grant application to fund repairs to the Bucoda Town Hall roof, and the Bucoda Gymnasium roof. Other improvement projects are currently on hold.

“The engineering for the drain system, you’re not going to see any work done with that until next fiscal year,” Carpenter said.

Also discussed was the beginning of LeMay Inc. trash collection services in the South Thurston County community, with service expected to start by May 1, and customers due to get their first bill directly from LeMay by the end of May, though city staff had yet to confirm that with LeMay representatives.
