The Black Hills volleyball team is 3-0 for the first time in 17 years, as the Wolves earned their second straight sweep with a 3-0 win over Yelm Wednesday night.
Black Hills took home the first set 25-20, triumphed 25-19 in the second set, and squeaked past the Tornados 25-23 in set three.
“I thought my team played well. It was a team effort from everyone. I’m proud of how they are playing at the start of the season,” Black Hills head coach Kendra Dunn said. “Yelm played great defense, which gave our attackers a bit of a challenge, but I am proud of how they handled that as a team.”
Lilly Worthen led the Wolves with nine kills and added nine assists and three aces. Tyler Venable contributed eight kills, 11 digs and three aces, while Tessa Truett dished 12 assists.
For Yelm, new head coach Bailey Whalen saw her offense begin to click against Black Hills but struggle in other areas.
“We have to compete more with the serve and pass game. Black Hills was able to move us around and get us out of our passing groove more than I’d like,” she said. “It was another good preseason match that pushed us, but I think it pointed out what we still need to work on the most, and that’s our own game and controlling what we can on our side.”
Yelm was led by Lexi Stone’s seven kills, and Rylee Hominda recorded 14 assists. Hayden Christensen hit .500 with five kills and zero errors, while Anna Lee logged a 2.47 pass rating.
Yelm (0-2) will host 2B Toledo Monday, Sept. 14, while Black Hills (3-0) will travel to Steilacoom Friday night.
