Bertoglio’s Pizza Slices Into Yelm’s Social Scene

Local Restaurant Offers Open Mic Night Among Other Social Events

What started out as a small take out place in Eatonville, has moved down to Yelm and is quickly becoming a hotspot to socialize.

Bertoglio’s Pizza has been in Yelm since September of 2020 after spending six and a half years in Eatonville.

“When I found this building in Yelm, I moved everything out here and brought in new equipment,” said owner Seven Bertoglio. “We were so limited on space in our old location. We were strictly take-out so that was what really motivated us to move out here. This building is super cool and we just love it.”

Bertoglio’s isn’t just a pizza shop either. They also have a selection of sandwiches and salads and began hosting pasta nights starting on Valentine’s Day. They also have gluten free options.

Along with having four TVs that can play a variety of sports, the restaurant now offers a new Acoustic Open Mic Night on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. They’ve also expanded their hours on Wednesdays to 9 p.m.

“One of our employees, MaHa, had the idea to start this up,” Bertoglio said. “It’s a brand new thing for us. It had been done in this building before which has been different restaurants and breweries but this was new for our business.”

Bertoglio was able to round up local talent to sing by asking some friends to perform and other musicians showed up as well. John Sparrow and the duo of Hogue and Moore entertained people for hours.

“It’s just a very chill and relaxed atmosphere,” Bertoglio said. “Everybody enjoyed it and there was great food.”

Opening up in late 2019, Bertoglio’s opened its new location as the COVID-19 pandemic hit a few months later. That put a kibosh on any plans for social gatherings for the community at the business, but Bertoglio’s is working on a lot of things they hope will become neighborhood attractions.

“Coming out of this thing, we wanted to have new ideas,” Bertoglio said. “People told us that the open mic night was the first time they ventured out since the pandemic.”

Bertoglio plans to do open mic night all year long. When the weather gets warmer, they plan to move it out to the business’ patio.

“A lot of people really enjoyed it so we want to get more people together and have fun,” Bertoglio said.

The business plans to host trivia nights and has been holding “Paint and Sip” evenings where people can enjoy some wine and painting. They hosted a Super Bowl party last weekend for excited football fans in the Yelm area.

Bertoglio’s is also very involved in veterans events. They have hosted a poker run for various veteran rider groups for things like veteran suicide prevention and have also gotten involved in breast cancer awareness events as well.

Bertoglio’s received its liquor license so the business will now have a fully stocked bar for people to enjoy.

They also have a humidifier and a selection of cigars, so people can get a nice cigar, a glass of scotch and enjoy the atmosphere on the patio.

Bertoglio’s Pizza is located at 704 Yelm Ave. W. in Yelm. Their menu can be found online at bertogliospizza.hrpos.heartland.us/menu and their Facebook page is at www.facebook.com/BertogliosPizza. They can also be reached by phone at 360-960-1001.
