Beavers Win Streak Snapped in Split Twinbill with Eagles

Posted

Though it managed to split its doubleheader with Elma, the Tenino baseball team saw its league winning streak snapped Tuesday, winning the first game 5-4 before falling 12-1 in five innings.

In Game 1, Brody Noonan hit a line drive to center field to score Mikey Vassar for what would be the game-winning run in the top of the eighth inning for a 5-4 victory over the Eagles.

Noonan led the offense, going 4 for 4 with three RBIs, while Vassar scored two runs and Kellan Knox was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a walk.

Noonan also tossed two hitless and scoreless innings of relief, striking out three. Cody Strawn started and threw six solid innings, striking out six and allowing just one earned run on 10 hits.

The second game wasn’t as kind to the Beavers, as their pitching woes came back to haunt them in a 12-1 defeat, snapping a six-game winning streak. Tenino didn’t do much at the plate either, with just two hits, including a Knox double.

“We did not come ready to play in the second game,” Beavers coach Ryan Schlesser said. “Elma did and the wheels fell off. Tale of two teams for us. Gotta get better and come back and try to win a series on Friday.”

Starting pitcher Jack Burkhardt went two innings and allowed six earned runs on two hits and three walks in the five inning defeat.

Tenino (11-5, 6-2 1A Evergreen) hosts Elma again in a 3 p.m. game on Friday in the rubber match.
