The Tenino volleyball team went two-and-out at the 1A District 4 tournament in Montesano on Wednesday, losing 25-15, 25-19, 25-15 to King’s Way Christian in the first round before falling 25-19, 25-10, 25-22 in a loser-out match against Castle Rock later in the evening.

Brooke Bratton led the defense in the first matchup with 15 digs, and also had two aces. Kate Burkhardt, Jaeleen Woodward and Brianna Asay all had 13. On the flip side of things, though, the Beavers managed just eight kills as a team.

“(There were) a lot of great long rallies,” coach Shauna Carpenter said. “We just struggled to find the floor.”

The offensive output increased a bit against the Rockets, with Bratton leading the way with four kills and also putting down five aces, but it wasn’t enough to take a set.

Woodward led the back row in the second match with 15 digs, and Asay added 10.

At the net, Kiyah Goodwin logged four blocks across the evening.

Tenino is set to graduate five seniors: Goodwin, Bratton, Natalie Davis, Sophia Hussey and Addyson Sutherland.

“It was a tough loss to end the season,” Carpenter said. “I wish I had one more year with the seniors.”
