Tenino captured wins in No. 1 singles, No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles to fend off 1A Evergreen League foe Eatonville, 3-2, during a home match on Tuesday.

The highlight of the day was Beavers’ No. 1 doubles duo Rilee Jones and Destiny Sampley battling back from a 4-6 loss to win back-to-back, 6-1, 6-3, to seal the victory.

Tenino coach Sam Shea said she was pleased with her team’s performance as the Beavers start the season off with two-straight wins.

“It was a solid match with good competition going on and nice rallies,” Shea said. “It was Abbigail’s (Archibald) first varsity match and she rallied back and fought out there.”

In No. 1 singles, Tenino’s Megan Letts defeated Cassidy Foster, 6-0, 6-3. In No. 2 singles, Bailey McKitrick defeated Teona Casul, 6-0, 6-1, and in No. 3 singles, Eatonville’s Iva McCullough defeated Tenino’s Abbigal Archibald, 6-0, 6-3.

In No. 2 doubles, Tenino duo Abby Coty and Lauren McClasin defeated Emily Suvers and Susie Stumph, 7-4, 3-6, 1-6.

Tenino (2-0) is off for spring break and next hosts Montesano at 3:30 p.m. on April 12.
