Armchair quarterbacking, from a retired sheriff with no expertise in medicine, public health, state governance, or global pandemics.

I'm old enough to remember the polio epidemics of the 1950s. When the vaccine came out, our parents eagerly lined us up at school to be vaccinated. They didn't moan about their rights being violated; they were determined to do their part to see polio eradicated just as they had determined to work together to win WWII.

One of the primary aims of the U.S. Constitution is "to promote the general welfare." It is a disgrace that most Lewis County political leaders (virtually all of them Republican) are encouraging residents to put their families and neighbors at risk by resisting public health measures. If Republicans had not fought public health officials tooth and nail from the get-go, Covid would be on the wane even now. Shame on McCloskey for inciting counterproductive, risky behavior.
