MedicOne provides a number of very valuable benefits to Thurston County citizens. As the article says, MedicOne pays 80% of the salary of the Paramedics who respond on the most serious medical and trauma calls. MedicOne employs the highly trained Medical Doctor under whose license, training, and guidance all of the Paramedics and EMTs in the County operate. The individual Fire Departments and ambulance providers do not have to pay for that otherwise costly medical direction. MedicOne also provides a great deal of training, not only for the Paramedics that it pays but more importantly for ALL of the Fire Department EMTs in the county through its Ongoing Training and Evaluation Program through its OTEP program, which requires and provides at least monthly training and testing for EMTs in their own fire stations. MedicOne also provides essential but expensive medial gear such as sophisticated cardiac monitors, ventilators, defibrillators, county-wide wireless communication with the hospital ERs, and much more. Under MedicOne's leadership, Thurston County has achieved and maintains one of the highest survival rates for out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the entire country. In my opinion, this is money well spent for you and your family.
