Family Storytime

Join the Yelm Timberland Library from 10:30 to 11 a.m. every Thursday for family storytime. The event includes music, movement, books and activities for the whole family. Children must be accompanied by a participating adult. The library is at 210 Prairie Park St. NE in Yelm.

Rainier Elementary Registration

The registration period for kindergarteners for the 2023-24 school year at Rainier Elementary School is open. Children must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31, 2023. Parents and guardians can pre-register their future kindergartener online at www.rainier.wednet.edu/domain/60. Click on the registration link to complete the form. Staff from the school’s office will contact parents to confirm interest in the elementary program and review the registration process and paperwork. Tenino Farmers Market

The Tenino Farmers Market, situated in Tenino’s downtown historic district on Olympia Street South, will host its annual Saturday market on July 29. The farmers market features flowers, baskets, vegetable starts, baked goods, farm-fresh produce, USDA meats and more. The market takes place every Saturday through Sept. 30. On Aug. 5, the market will honor National Farmers Market Week, and Aug. 19 will be garlic day. Sept. 30 will conclude the season during pumpkin day.

 

Yelm Farmers Market

The Yelm Farmers Market will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 29 at a new location: in front of the Yelm Police Station on McKenzie Street.  The markets are scheduled every Saturday until Sept. 30.

Second Annual Yelm Music Festival

The second annual Yelm Music Festival is set for noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 29 at Yelm City Park. It will feature a talent show, food and different vendors. People interested in participating in the talent show should call 253-370-3721.

InGenius! Gallery and Boutique Two Year Celebration

InGenius! is celebrating its second anniversary and being nominated for the Thurston Economic Development Council’s Economic Courage award. Beginning at 2 p.m., the event will kick off with artists and artisans rounding up for demonstrations and other activities. Then, at 6 p.m. in the greenspace by the skatepark, Altai will perform live music. The event is free.

Tuesday, Aug. 1

Yelm’s National Night Out

Join the City of Yelm and Yelm Police Department from 5-8 p.m. Aug. 1 at Yelm City Park and Community Center for National Night Out. Yelm families can interact with police officers during different activities. The event is free. 



Friday, Aug. 4

Jazz in the Park

The sixth annual Jazz in the Park event will return at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4 and Saturday, Aug. 5 at Yelm City Park. The event is free and includes live jazz bands and a beer and wine garden.

Lavender Passion Flower Farm’s Artisan Craft Market

Lavender Passion Flower Farm’s third Artisan Craft Market is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5 at 219 Mineral Creek Road N in Mineral. Event organizers welcome attendants to stroll the lavender gardens, listen to music and enjoy a lavender pastry while exploring different vendors. There will be a hamburger and hot dog fundraiser hosted by Community Roots.

Bigelow House Museum Tour

The Bigelow House Museum offers regular escorted tours on the first and second Sunday of the month at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Entrance fees are $5 per adult, $4 for seniors and students, and $2 for children. The museum is located at 918 Glass Ave. NE in Olympia.

Tuesday, Aug. 8

American Legion Post #164 Suicide Prevention Class

Yelm’s American Legion Post No. 164 is offering a suicide prevention class at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8 at the Legion Hall in Yelm. The class will be ran by Dave Cappelle, a suicide prevention coordinator from the American Lake VA. The event will last approximately one hour, plus a Q&A. Though the primary purpose of the class is veterans suicide prevention, those interested in suicide prevention and intervention are encouraged to attend.

Thursday, Aug. 10

Prairie Point Quilters Guild Meeting

The Prairie Point Quilters Guild hosts its meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. The meeting takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Rainier Senior Center, 108 Michigan St. S. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join the group for its meetings.

Saturday, Sept. 9

Norse West Viking Festival

The annual Norse West Viking Festival is set for Saturday, Sept. 9 at Cochrane Park in Yelm. The event will feature local food vendors and a beer garden for “Vikings who are hungry and thirsty from plundering and pillaging.” There will also be dancing, tradesmen to teach different trades and local vendors.
