Rides Bike and Board opened its doors on Tuesday, July 18 and offers repair services to an abundance of micro-mobility vehicles, including different styles of bicycles and skateboards. With the shop in a premier location at 305 First St. S, owner Dylan Muhle said he is excited to be open in Yelm.
Muhle used to run a bicycle shop several years back before moving to Yelm. As well, Muhle helped run his neighbor’s bike shop for over two years when he was a youth.
“This has been in my blood for years,” Muhle said. “I’ve always enjoyed helping out the community. If it’s something simple, from adjusting the breaks to helping out putting a new crankset on, I enjoy it. I used to have a shop years ago, and I enjoyed it and enjoyed the community. I’d like to start it up again out here and get back into it.”
Muhle said he works on a range of “micro-mobility” vehicles, everything from “regular to professional” bikes, racing bikes, mountain bikes and “pretty much everything out there,” Muhle said.
Rides Bike and Board will also carry parts such as pedals, tubes, tires, lights, helmets and “all sorts of stuff” for sale, Muhle added.
“My ultimate goal was to try to get into this plaza. It just so happened that our neighbor store, Fun Time Toys, was moving just a couple doors down to a bigger place, so this location opened up,” Muhle said. “I thought it was a great location because of the trail, and we also have the skate park right here. On top of it, we have the park across the street, where Yelm continuously throws events, which is awesome.”
Muhle said he’s excited to serve the Yelm community through the shop. He said he welcomes people stopping in, even if it’s just to say hi.
Muhle said he will begin by doing services, but, as time goes on, more inventory will come in.
The business will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
In addition to serving the Yelm community, Muhle said he enlisted Rides Bike and Board to help this year’s Seattle-to-Portland Bicycle Classic participants in “whatever capacity” he could. He added the store was open for the Seattle-to-Portland bike ride, even with limited inventory.
Prior to moving to Yelm, Muhle said he’d visited the area before while vacationing in the Olympia area. His first visit to Yelm left a lasting impression, he said.
“When I first visited up here, I loved Yelm,” Muhle said. “When we finally had the opportunity to move here, we realized the community could use some service for bicycles and things of that sort.”
