One Net Yelm and Yelm Cinemas are joining forces to present a free movie and toy drive on Dec. 9, with doors opening at 9:30 a.m. and the movie, “The Polar Express,” playing at 10 a.m.

“One Net Yelm is a brand new nonprofit that was formed in order to address some of the things that were falling through the cracks in resources in Yelm,” organizer Line Roy said. “All of our members have a long history of community service, with most of us coming with experience at other local nonprofits.”

Line added that the organization wants to do the most good on a short schedule to benefit Yelm.

“We want to help people right here in this area, focusing on Yelm and our surrounding neighbors,” Roy said. “Because we’ve worked with other nonprofits, we’ve all worked on this drive a number of times. Last year, we collected a truckload of toys and art supplies that we delivered to Yelm Community Services. Yelm Community Services distributes the toys to local families.”

Kids who attend the event will receive a free kids pack.

“This toy drive is one of my favorite activities,” Roy said. “It’s so neat to see the kiddos coming to the theater, some in PJ’s, to enjoy the show. The kiddos each get a kids pack, which includes a soda, popcorn and candy. We’ve seen a couple hundred people come through in the past.”

When showing “The Polar Express,” Line said kids can expect to see some characters from the movie, take some pictures, get their movie ticket, kids pack and enjoy the movie.

“We may even have a very special guest dressed all in red make an appearance,” Roy said.

“Because we’re a brand new organization, we have just a handful of members, but we have incredible support from our community,” Roy said. “Especially businesses right here, Prairie Park and Tad Stillwell Farmers Insurance, and Mr. Dougs are incredible partners. Yelm Cinemas has generously supported this specific event.”
