Letters to the Editor: South Pierce Fire & Rescue, high gas prices

Posted

South Pierce Fire and Rescue deserves support

Our firefighters work 24-hour shifts in stations that are in dire need of updating.

From decontaminations areas to apparatus aprons, current funding has not allowed us to complete these upgrades to our stations.

To see this for yourself, please attend one of our upcoming open houses. Please vote yes on the upcoming levy lift next month.

Democrats to blame for high gas prices

So, let’s take a look at our fuel situation.

The nation, on average right now, pays $3.57 per gallon for regular gas. I think this is a very reasonable price. Wouldn’t it be nice to have that kind of price here in Washington, instead of nearly $5 per gallon? That is our price in Lewis and Thurston counties right now.

By next year at this time, at the rate we’re headed, you folks can expect to pay possibly $6.25 per gallon. Oh, goody!

Sure, I get that if you live in Mississippi that fuel costs less. Even California, one of the most populous states, is paying less than we here in Washington are.

Reason: You folks keep voting for more taxes to pay for what you really do not have to have. Mostly it is in high population areas within the state, i.e. King, Snohomish, Pierce counties.

You probably do not drive or do not have to drive far. Maybe you catch the train, ride share or use other public transportation. For those in rural counties, where you may have to drive farther using your own means of transportation, it will cost much more.

How much more can we take?

Personally, I feel that this is a Democrat-controlled issue. If you are an urban dweller and feel that fuel is not your concern, so what. But if you happen to live in rural Washington, you are likely to be a blue collar, hard-working GOP member who has worked a lifetime just trying to stay above water.

Shame on you folks and your foolish decisions.

Why is it that, in the state of Washington, we have to pay for expensive fuel due to folks who most likely do not even have a use for it?!

Time to make a change for our predicament will only cost us more. Give us a break. Stop voting for needless bureaucratic crap. I think it is time to replace all of the Fergusons and Inslees and all of their big government spending and taxes. Good luck with that. Good day.
