John W. Heymann moved on to his eternal rest on March 29, 2023 at 80 years old.
He was born and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from Archbishop Stepinac High School, he served with the U.S. Air Force in Korea during the Vietnam War before settling in Washington state.
Following the service, he earned a master’s degree in accounting and worked as a financial analyst for Washington state until 1995 before retiring. He did take on a few jobs thereafter. His last job was being a role player at Fort Lewis McCord. He was very honored to help and be around our troops preparing them for overseas deployment. He would always approach troops in uniform or those wearing military hats to say, “Thank you for your service to our country.”
Faith was very important to John as he attended daily mass, praying often and reciting the rosary nightly with his wife, Debra. He volunteered for many years at St. Columban Catholic Church, most recently with the St. Vincent de Paul Society providing firewood for those in need. He was always being of service to lend a helping hand, shoulder to lean on, or ears to just listen.
John was well known for his sense of humor, turn-of-a-phrase, jokes and stories.
In addition to his beloved wife of 33 years, Debra (Debbie), he leaves behind three sons, Bill, Steve (wife Marrisa) and Greg (wife Sarah); and five grandchildren, Roberto, Sabastian, Kadin, Mykayla and Dayton.
A rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. with a funeral mass following at 11 a.m. on June 16, 2023, at St. Columban Catholic Church, 506 First St. S., Yelm, Washington.
There will also be a graveside service with military honors at 2 p.m. on June 16 at Mills and Mills Funeral Home, 5725 Littlerock Road SW, Tumwater, Washington.
