Golf tourney to benefit RHS athletics
The first ever Rainier High School athletic department golf tournament is May 31 at Tahoma Valley Golf Course in Yelm.

The event will host a four-man scramble with all proceeds benefiting student-athletes at the high school.

“It’s a fun way to get together and support Rainier Athletics,” Rainier athletic director John Beckman said.

The entry fee is $240 per team ($60 a player) if entry is received by May 15. The entry fee is $300 per team ($75 a player) if paid at the door. Make checks payable to Rainier High School. If you are an individual wanting to play without a team, the cost is $65.

The tournament begins at 8 a.m.

To print a registration form, visit Rainier High School’s Web site. On the home page, scroll down to Athletic Department Golf Tournament and “click here.”

Contact John Beckman at 360-446-2227 or beckmanj@rainier.wednet.edu for more information.

Prairie Soccer Club has summer club sign-up
Prairie Soccer Club is having a summer registration and soccer night 3:30 - 7 p.m. Friday, April 18 at Yelm City Park. Summer registration is free and is for boys and girls ages 4-18.

Since cleats can quickly outgrown, there will be a cleat exchange.

Girls from Yelm High School’s soccer team will attend and give out pointers to everyone in attendance. The team will also participate in several fun games.

There will be street soccer for older kids that have registered for fall, spring or summer.

While in attendance everyone has a chance to order PSC sweatshirts.

For more information contact Sandy Wheaton at 253-843-1825.

Yelm’s Jazzline places 2nd, 3rd at state tourney
After placing second and fifth in its two events at districts, the Yelm High School’s Jazzline team wanted to finish the state tournament on a high note -- or high kick.

At Yakima on Saturday, March 29 the team capped off the tournament by placing second in high-kick and third in dance.

“They are a really talented team,” said coach Pam Cameron. “They bonded really well and they really wanted it.”

“We stepped up to another level of talent.”

Tryouts for the next Jazzline squad will be 6-8 p.m. April 21-24 at the Yelm High School gym. Grades 9-11 can try out for the team. A parent meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17 in the YHS theater.

Spring Break camp
Lacey Parks and Rec is offering Spring Break Day Camp 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. April 7 through April 11 at Mountain View Elementary School.

Activities include arts and crafts, sports, games, swimming, skating, movies, guest speakers, field trips and much more. Snacks will be provided, but campers must bring a sack lunch.

Cost is $120 for the entire week.

Registration is required and space is limited.
